About Kristie
Hi, I'm Kristie Woo., an RCM piano and music theory teacher serving Vancouver and Richmond, B.C. I hold an ARCT in Piano Performance with First Class Honours, a First Class Honours with Distinction in Level 10 Piano, a Teaching Certificate in Elementary Pedagogy from the Royal Conservatory of Music, and nine years of teaching experience.
My students have been recognized on the RCM First Class Honor Roll for British Columbia & Yukon. I teach in both English and Cantonese, and bring a high standard, structured approach to every lesson, along with a genuine commitment to each student's long-term growth.
How I teach
Before piano, I studied psychology and it shapes everything about how I teach. Understanding how children learn, stay motivated, and build confidence lets me create a structured environment where students feel safe making mistakes, learning from them, and growing. I focus on helping students understand why concepts work, so they can apply what they know across both their playing and their written theory, rather than memorizing their way through.
I prepare students carefully for their RCM exams while building a growth mindset that helps them meet challenges with confidence. The discipline, focus, and resilience they develop at the piano tend to carry well beyond music into school, work, and life.
Inside the studio
“I got Steven’s score, and he did a good job with your help. Thank you again. I would like to share another piece of good news. Steven got a spot for the Shad summer campus program, which was partly contributed to by your letter. The organizer said that the applications were far more than in past years, so all the candidates who finally got the offer should be very proud of themselves. Thank you for your generous reference letter.”

A Personal Note
My own musical training shaped the way I teach today. I grew up with music and still remember the day I asked my mom for piano lessons. It was something I chose for myself. I also remember what it felt like to want to quit, and what it took to keep going. Because of that, I understand both the joy and the difficulty of learning music. When students feel frustrated or discouraged, I don’t dismiss it. I meet them in that moment and help them move through it.
If you are looking for a supportive environment where your child will be challenged, held accountable, and genuinely proud of their progress, I’d love to connect!
