Hear from Parents and Students

“Kristie has been very, very patient with my daughter. Music theory at the beginning was not smooth. Kristie knows when my daughter needs support, and she tries different methods to help her understand. She sends out an email after every class with clear information, a recap, and what is expected for homework and the next lesson. There are times when my daughter is not motivated, and Kristie does not let her get away with that either. Kristie keeps my daughter on her toes.”

“Kristie is very considerate and understanding. She cares a lot about her students and always tries to set them up for success. I always feel comfortable talking to her and asking her questions. Not only is she able to answer questions I have regarding theory in depth, and using languages that help me understand better, she’s also able to give really good advice about challenges outside of music theory (such as academic advice and how to deal with stress).’

— Nerine (student)

Graduated Level 9 Harmony & Level 9 History student, achieving First Class Honours

“Kristie is very patient, encouraging and makes piano enjoyable. It is always a positive experience.”

My Approach

Hi, I'm Kristie Woo, an RCM piano and music theory teacher based in Vancouver, B.C. With 9 years of teaching experience, I've seen firsthand what separates students who plateau from those who thrive - and it comes down to foundation.

Many students struggle because they rush through pieces without building a well-rounded repertoire, or they focus only on the minimum requirements for exams, leaving gaps in their skills and confidence. Some even reach an advanced level on their instrument, but need to complete their music theory requirements quickly.

My approach is different. Each student works through a broad, carefully selected repertoire that builds technical ability, depends musical understanding, and develops the practice habits required for lasting progress. Lessons are structured around clear expectations and consistent accountability, with a focus on long-term development, not just passing the next exam.

The results: students who are genuinely prepared for each level, not just cleared for it.

The benefits go beyond music. The discipline, focus, and resilience built at the piano carry into academics, work, and life.
